SYNOPSIS OF The Signal Season 1
The smooth blend of sci-fi and drama works in favor of the Netflix Limited Series, The Signal. This series has only four hour-long episodes, but in that time it asks a lot of very insightful and thought-provoking questions about everything from mental health to first contact with an alien species.
It is centered around the mysterious disappearance of astronaut Paula Groth and her family’s relentless search for her. To solve this case, they have to prepare themselves for various dangers.
SUMMARY OF The Signal Season 1
This series is to be found in the tight-knit family of astronaut Paula, her husband Sven, and their hearing-impaired daughter Charlie. The latter is so cocky and quietly brilliant that it sometimes seems made for TV. Overall, the family is believable.
Paula has completed a mission on the International Space Station, funded by Indian billionaire Benisha Mudhi. The signal begins with Paula and another astronaut, Hadi. Paula is averse to deploying the parachutes that’ll bring the shuttle safely to the ground.
At night, she calls Sven and makes several hazy comments. The next day, the flight carrying Paula and Hadi back to Germany goes missing. All its occupiers are supposed to die. These early portions work really well, in large part because they’re couched in the perspective of Sven and Charlie, whose ambition to be reunited with Paula was so noticeable that the loss feels accurately stinging.
